Since I was a child, I’ve loved climbing on things and building cities out of LEGO on the carpet, and I would have loved to do some DIY work, as well. But somehow, I always got the feedback that these things were ‘not for girls,’ so after a while, I stopped trying to do things that were ‘not for girls.’ Playing soccer turned into basketball, and my desire to DIY work faded.
I don’t regret playing basketball, but I do regret not pursuing my DIY work dreams. Another side of this story is that I always wanted to do everything perfectly, so at the first mistake, I thought it wasn’t for me and quit, leaving the field to those who could move past their first mistakes.
So, a very old dream came true when I started a basic course in industrial climbing with international recognition (IRATA) and joined my partner’s team, the so-called ‘Rogue Rats,’ where the core values are high-quality work and exemplary safety practices.
I completed the IRATA Level 1 training in Brașov.
The first job I participated in, was insulating an apartment. There’s still room for me to improve in using the masonry trowel.
I really enjoyed the drilling.
Bag hauling on a tensioned line.
After replacing the lightning rod at the Calvaria Church in Satu Mare, where I assisted from the ground, I also went up to take a look around.
One of my favorite jobs: removing trash from a tree.
Installing a bat box.
We had to install lights on an Orthodox cathedral in Cluj-Napoca. I really enjoyed assembling, testing, and putting them up.
Good teamwork was important; the internal cabling and the external installation had to be coordinated.
Indoor light wiring.
Part of the final result: the colors weren’t properly adjusted in the app yet, and some windows were covered due to painting.
Descending.
Light wiring under St. Paul.
Foam it up.
I checked the completed fall-arrest system, and the sign visible in the bottom right corner was also made during the project — this is where combining multiple projects comes into play, see Inkscape.
The project is still ongoing, and the site will continue to expand. I still have a lot to learn and figure out; for now, the path that seems workable for me is to work exclusively with the Rogue Rats team. This way, I have the opportunity to work with an experienced professional who values security and high-quality work—which is quite rare in this industry, because everyone is in a rush. I, on the other hand, don’t like to rush.
